Reinforced concrete girders; reinforced blockwork girders; girder floors; joist floors with block filling.-Girders for floors, ceilings, and roofs are formed by placing in a frame two opposing rows of blocks 1 having transverse holes 2 and filling in cement 7 in which is embedded a reinforcement 6. The blocks may be made of clay or concrete, and the inner faces may be provided with one or more longitudinal grooves, or they may be rabbeted as shown in Fig. 3. The reinforcement may be wire netting. woven wirework, or perforated sheet metal with strengthened edges. The girders may be provided with nailing- strips for floorboards, or the filling material may be suitable for receiving nails. The flanges of the blocks may be at the top or at both top and bottom. Filler blocks b may be placed between the girders.
