Abstract

1,183,217. Grinding. ELLIOTT MACHINE TOOLS Ltd. 4 Sept., 1968 [6 Sept., 1967], No. 40664/67. Heading B3D. A work-table for a surface grinding machine comprises an integral table member 1 having a magnetic work-holder incorporated therein. The lower surface of the table member has slides which may be covered with non-magnetic plastic liners and engage the base of the machine. The upper surface has a recess 4 which is covered by the magnetic plate 7 of the workholder and slidably receives the magnetic block 6 of the work-holder. The block consists of permanent or electromagnets and is urged upwardly against the plate 7 by springs 8. A lug 9 on the block engages an eccentric 11 on a shaft 12 which is located in the table member and rotatable by a handle 13 to effect the sliding movement of the block. The handle may be positioned outside a safety guard for the machine. The work-holder may be operated by controls integral with the machine in consequence of the grinding operation.
