Abstract
1,183,104. Aminoplast compositions. GAGLIARDI RESEARCH CORP. 14 April, 1967 [5 May, 1966], No. 17308/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division D1] A composition used in the crease-proofing of cellulosic fabric comprises an aqueous solution containing (a) a nitrogen-containing organic, water soluble cellulose crease-proofing agent; (b) an organic cellulodilator which is capable of dilating or swelling cellulose to a greater extent than water at 10-100‹ C.; and (c) a catalyst for the crease-proofing agent. The creaseproofing agent may be a compound having the formula in which X is C = O, C = NH or C = S, R is H or a lower alkyl radical and Y is -CH 2 CH 2 -, -CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 -, -CH 2 CO-, dimethylol or dimethoxymethyl urea, a polymethylol melamine, a polymethylol alkyl carbamate, trisaziridinyl phosphine oxide, trismethyl aziridinyl phosphine oxide or trimethoxymethyl melamine. Suitable cellulodilators are dimethyl sulphoxide, used together with other cellulodilators, dimethyl formamide, dimethyl aoetamide, N - methyl pyrrolidone, 2 - pyrrolidone, tetramethyl urea, N- vinyl pyrrolidone, sodium xylene sulphonate, butyrolactone and dimethyl sulphone. The solution may also contain an inorganic cellulodilator e.g. lithium thiocyanate or bromide, zirconium or aluminium chlorohydroxide, calcium chloride or bromide or magnesium chloride. The catalyst may be zinc nitrate, chloride or fluoroborate, magnesium chloride, ammonium silicofluoride, diammonium acid phosphate, ammonium bisulphate, ethanolamine hydrochloride or hydrochloric, phthalic, tartaric or citric acid. The solution may contain 1-20% by weight of the crease-proofing agent, 1-20% by weight of the cellulodilator and 1-5% by weight of the catalyst.
