1,182,778. Automatic voltage control. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 5, 1967 [Aug.8, 1966], No.35379/66. Heading G3R. A voltage regulator for a generator 14 connected to charge the battery 13 of a road vehicle comprises transistors 17, 18 which control, in known manner, the current flowing through the generator field winding 15 in dependence upon output voltage variations as detected by a voltage divider constituted by a resistor 23 and a thermistor 22 which is bridged by a variable resistor. As shown, the variable resistor comprises resistors 27, 29, 31 associated with a switch 28, so that the temperature compensating action of the thermistor can be modified, by selecting a suitable combination of resistors, to give a desired charging characteristic for particular circumstances. The generator may be an alternator with a rectified output.
