Abstract
1,182,561. Machinery guards. NORTON CO. 3 Jan., 1968 [3 Jan., 1967], No. 400/68. Heading F2J. In a grinding wheel guard comprising a fixed section 1 and an adjustable hood portion 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, a shutter 12, 12<SP>1</SP> is pivotally mounted within the hood portion by means of a four-bar linkage 10, 11, and is retained in a retracted position by means of shear pins 14. In the event of accidental destruction of the grinding wheel 2, some broken fragments of the wheel are received within the housing 1, and some fragments impinge upon the shutter 12, 12<SP>1</SP> causing the shear pins 14 to sever and the shutter to move in a clockwise direction to the position shown dotted, a lip portion 15 of the shutter engaging a lip 9 on the hood to limit further movement of the shutter. The hood 6, 6<SP>1</SP> is mounted on the fixed guard section 1 by means of a pivot pin 5, and clamping bolts 8 engage arcuate slots 7 in the side walls 6<SP>1</SP> in order to adjustably clamp the hood in a position in which a lip portion 13 of shutter 12, 121 lies closely adjacent to the circumference of the grinding wheel 2.
