Abstract

1,181,490. Taking up slack in cables; masted lift trucks. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. 26 April, 1968 [12 June, 1967], No. 20059/68. Headings B8B and B8H. An apparatus for receiving a pair of flexible fluid conduits 76, 86 extending between a movable and a stationary section of a lift truck telescopic mast comprises a beam 108 movable relative and parallel to the mast sections and having a sheave assembly 94, 96 at each end around each of which, one of the conduits is looped. The conduits extend in opposite directions from a plate 138 attached to the movable mast section, around the sheave assemblies 94, 96 which are spring-biased outwardly from the beam 108, and are then coupled to a plate 134 mounted on the stationary mast section. Contraction in either conduit due to fluid pressurization therein is absorbed by compression of the spring associated with the appropriate sheave assembly, and flexible electrical conductors 140, 148 coextending with and clipped to the conduits merely become slack when the conduit contracts. In the embodiment of Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the sheave assemblies at the ends of the beam are not spring-loaded but the conductors are spring-biased to take up slack and remove tension in the conductors as the beam moves, due to contraction of the conduits. The embodiment of Fig. 11 (not shown), is similar to the previous embodiment but both conductors are coupled together by a spring- loaded plate which is linearly movable to tension both conductors, or pivotally movable to take up slack in one and pay out the other. The conduits supply fluid to be used as a power source to a valve on a carrier vertically movable on the upper section of the mast, and the valve is controlled by solenoids supplied with power via the said conductors. The carrier is movable by chains extending between the carrier and the cylinder of a mast operating fluid ram and passing over sprockets on the upper piston of the ram. Both a two- and a three-section mast are described.
