Abstract
1,181,429. Spanners. WESTERN TOOL CO. 30 Nov., 1967 [9 Feb., 1967; 22 May, 1967], No. 54436/67. Heading B3N. An adjustable spanner comprises a handle 10, Fig. 2, with a fixed jaw 12, a sliding jaw 22, a screw 16 which co-operates with ribs 23 on jaw 22, and a second screw 30 which drives screw 16 through bevel gears 26,54. A cover 36, Fig. 1, supports a button which engages the helical groove 51 of screw 30, so that sliding movement of the button rotates the screws, which then vary the position of jaw 22. In a modification, the bearings 84, Fig. 9, are manually insertable in the side of handle 10. In a further modification, the screw 100 is rotated by an endless belt 105, Fig. 13, operated by a sliding button which engages depressions in the belt.
