Abstract
1,180,567. Curing block copolymers. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 29 Nov., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 49531/66. Heading C3P. Block copolymers of the formula A-(B-A)n, in which each A is a polystyrene block having a second-order transition temperature greater than 25‹ C. and a molecular weight between 200 and 100,000, and each B is a polybutadiene block having a glass-transition temperature below 10‹ C. and a molecular weight between 25,000 and 1,000,000 and n is 1 to 10, are compounded with an oil-extender in an amount of at least 75 per cent by weight of the polybutadiene block(s), and a sulphur/ accelerator curing system for the B polymer block(s), the amounts of sulphur and accelerator being each not more than 1 part by weight per 100 parts by weight of copolymer and heating the compounded polymer up to 150‹ C. Naphthenic oils are preferred as oil-extenders and N-cyclohexyl-2-benzthiazyl sulphenamide as accelerator, with zinc oxide and stearic acid as activators for the accelerator. The examples relate to the curing of 3-block copolymers.
