Abstract
1,180,289. Flexible shafts. R. WILSON. 8 Aug., 1968 [25 Oct., 1967], No. 48481/67. Heading F2U. A flexible shaft 1 in a flexible sheath 6 is formed with a helical groove 4 to assist the passage of lubricant therealong. The groove may be left-handed or right-handed, the shaft and sheath being formed from an electrically non-conductive material, e.g. plastics, natural or synthetic rubber. A second groove may be formed in portion 5 of the shaft 1 to increase its flexibility. Again, a reinforcing wire may be inserted along the axis of the shaft. The sheath 6 may be corrugated to form bellows (9), Fig. 2 (not shown). The ends 2, 3 of shaft 1 may be square for reception i n square recesses in driving and driven members.
