[Also in Division A2] An apparatus for the ultrasonic treatment of liquids, e.g. for the sterilization of milk, comprises a plurality of ultrasonic generators the transducers 6 of which are mounted on a first wall of a flared section 4 of a pipe 1 which first wall is associated with a second opposite wall which reflects the ultrasonic beams produced towards the axis of the pipe, e.g. as shown by the arrows 9. The liquid may flow in the direction of the arrow 5 through an inlet tube 2 to an outlet tube 3, or may flow in the opposite direction. The transducers may be mounted with their front faces, suitably sealed, in contact with the liquid, and the front faces may be concave to prefocus the emitted beams.
