Abstract

925,541. Ultrasonic fluid-flow meters. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Jan. 8, 1960 [Jan. 22, 1959], No. 2492/59. Class 40 (7). In improvements of a known Doppler-effect ultrasonic fluid-flow meter, Fig. 1 (not shown), the transducers 3, 25, Fig. 2, are coupled to the fluid by a material 1 having a temperature coefficient of sound velocity, A, less than the A-value of the fluid; or a single transducer 23, Fig. 3, is utilized and is coupled to the fluid via a liquid 21 having a negligible A-value and an insert 24 having a low sound velocity but not necessarily a low A-value. Insert 24 may be of polystyrene or tin, and liquid 21 may be a 17% solution by weight of ethyl alcohol in water. A mathematical treatment is given. Specification 855,650 is referred to.
