Abstract

1356810 Aerosol producers LKB-MEDICAL AB 20 July 1971 [23 July 1970] 34053/71 Heading B2F In an ultrasonic atomiser for forming an aerosol, which comprises a container 1, a liquid inlet 11, a controlled flow carrier gas inlet 13 and an aerosol outlet 25, a transmission medium 9, e.g. water, is provided to transfer energy from an ultrasonic vibrator 7 to a vibrating plate 19. The vibrator 7 is inclined to the plate 19 at an angle α which is stated to assist starting of the atomiser, and may be formed by a pizoelectric crystal. In operation, the vibrator 7 causes the medium 9 to contact the plate 19 which is circular with parallel major faces. A conical baffle 21 is provided to trap any liquid not atomised, any liquid not so trapped being discharged through a drain 17. The container 1 consists of upper and lower parts 5, 3 respectively. The plate 19 and vibrator 7 may be disposed vertically. The liquid may be supplied evenly distributed around the periphery of the plate 19 through either a circumferential slit therein or through recesses evenly distributed around the periphery of the plate.
