Abstract

1,179,736. Arc extinguishing in switches. WATFORD ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 29 Aug., 1968 [31 May, 1967], No. 22886/67. Heading H1N. In an arc-chute having a plurality of splitter plates for dividing the arc into several series arcs, a rectifying network 15 is connected to shunt at least one but not all of the series arcs. The network 15 may comprise a single diode, S.C.R. or transistor or a combination of elements providing the necessary forward and reverse impedances. The invention may be applied to a double break arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown).
