Abstract

1,179,713. Mixing apparatus, H. J. HEINZ CO. 25 April, 1967 [13 May, 1966], No.18903/ 67. Heading B1C. A stirrer shaft 12 has paddles 13, 15 rotating therewith and interdigitating with paddles 14 journalled freely on the shaft and restrained from rotation by contact with abutments 20. Paddles 13 are angled to the shaft and paddle 15 has a dihedral cross-section (see Fig. 4, not shown). In another embodiment (see Figs. 6-8, not shown) both kinds of paddle are T-shaped, the rotatable paddles (25) sweeping a path outside the stationary paddles (26) which have fingers (35) extending between the rotatable paddles to engage the abutments (36). The rotatable paddles in this embodiment are in sets of three spaced equiangularly round the shaft and supported by struts (30). In both embodiments the shaft with both stationary and rotating paddles can be withdrawn as a unit.
