Abstract

1,179,612. Self-levelling suspension units. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 10 May, 1967 [27 Aug., 1966], No. 21774/67. Heading F2S. A self-levelling shock absorber comprises two telescoped tubes, a piston-rod 5 having a longitudinal bore 7 and lateral opening 8, secured to the outer tube 1, a piston 6 slidably mounted on the rod and movable in the inner oil-filled tube 2, and a displacement chamber 9 between the piston and the piston-rod opening and closing on relative movement between the piston and the piston-rod so that a quantity of oil determined by the size of the chamber 9 is delivered at each piston stroke or each recoil stroke only via the transverse bore 8, longitudinal bore 7 and connection 10 to a collector, e.g. a pressure accumulator. The pressure accumulator may supply one or more pressure-medium loads such as window opening and closing or seat adjusting devices. As shown in Fig. 1, the shock absorber acts as a single-acting pump, the piston-rod having a shoulder portion 11 which on the recoil stroke first closes the displacement chamber 9 and then displaces the oil therefrom to the collector via a non-return valve. In other embodiments, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the pump is double acting.
