Abstract

1,179,401. Change-speed gear. G. & E. BRADLEY Ltd. 1 Feb., 1967 [1 Nov., 1965], No. 46249/65. Heading F2D. An epicyclic gear comprises stepped planets 12, 15 on an output carrier 14 meshing ring gears 17, 19, the former 17 of which is held by a one-way brake (18) against clockwise rotation (as seen from the right of Fig. 1) so that anticlockwise rotation of an input shaft 10 causes anticlockwise rotation of the output shaft at one ratio, whilst the latter 19 is held by a brake (31), Fig. 3 (not shown), against anticlockwise rotation when the input shaft rotates clockwise to provide clockwise rotation of the output shaft at another ratio. Clockwise rotation of the input shaft rotates clockwise a sun 20 which acts through a one-way clutch and slip coupling 22, 23 to rotate a hub 24 clockwise against the bias of a spring (26) and engage a pawl 31 carried by the hub with the-ring gear 19. An additional spring pressed pawl 27 may prevent clockwise rotation of the ring 19 and thus prevent overrun.
