Abstract

1,179,374. Anticorrosive lubricant additive. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 13 May, 1968 [13 May, 1967], No. 22562/68. Heading C5F. An anticorrosive additive for lubricants comprises (a) 67-99% by wt. of an oil-soluble alkaline earth metal salt of a petroleum sulphonic acid, a C 10 -C 36 fatty acid and/or an alkyl-sulphamido carboxylic acid, and (b) 33-1% by wt. of benzotriazole. Component (a) may be an alkaline earth metal salt of lauric acid, ricinoleic acid, palm oil fatty acid, behenic acid or montanic acid, or an alkyl sulphamido-carboxylic acid having the formula R-SO 2 .NH(CH 2 ) n .COOH in which R is a C 10 - C 18 alkyl radical and n is an integer of 1 to 5. Barium salts are preferred. The additive composition may be incorporated into lubricants, e.g. mineral oils containing a chloroparaffin extreme pressure agent, in amount 0À1-2% by wt.
