Abstract

1,179,370. Isomerisation catalysts. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 5 June, 1968 [7 June, 1967], No. 26738/68. Addition to 1,151,653. Heading B1E. [Also in Divisions Cl and C5] An isomerisation catalyst is made by treating a crystalline mordenite sequentially with (a) acid at 93-149‹C. (b) acid at 10-38‹C. and (c) an ammonium compound and exchanging ions of a Group VIII metal into the so treated mordenite. The acid may be organic or inorganic of H 3 PO 4 , H 2 SO 4 , HmO 3 or HCl. The ammonium compound may be hydroxide, chloride, sulphate, phosphate or nitrate. In examples Pd<SP>++</SP> and Pt<SP>++</SP> are ion exchanged onto mordenite.
