Abstract
1,179,331. Laminates. ROHM & HAAS CO. 26 Jan., 1967 [9 Feb., 1966], No. 3965/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Division C3] Films or sheets useful in forming laminates with various substrates are composed of a sequentially emulsion polymerized copolymer containing at least four separately polymerized stages, the first of which contains at least 80% by weight of C 2 -C 8 -alkyl acrylate units and the remainder of which contains a gradationally smaller proportion of such acrylate units and a gradationally larger proportion of C 1- C 4 -alkyl methacrylate units than the preceding stage. Each stage may include a comonomer component, and the first stage includes a cross-linking monomer component. The films or sheets can be roll laminated on substrates such as aluminium, steel, galvanized steel, hardboard, asbestos cement, plywood, lumber and roofing materials, with or without an adhesive, e.g. an acrylic or epoxy resin. The film or sheet may include a filler, pigment or dye, e.g. calcium carbonate, barytes, diatomaceous earth, clays, titanium dioxide, cadmium red, chrome orange or yellow, or phthalocyanine blue or green.
