Abstract
117,915. Walker, J. H. June 8, 1917. Reinforced concrete; columns; concrete flooring. -- Relates to reinforcements for concrete roads, columns, &c. of the kind in which longitudinal and transverse reinforcing members are connected together by zigzag bars Figs. 1 and 2 show the invention applied to a road reinforcement. The zigzag bars a, a<1> are threaded in pairs on the loops b of the transverse rods c so that they can turn upon the loops as upon a hinge, and when the wires are turned upon the loops into what may be called the open position, the longitudinal rods d may be laid in the angles between them. If now the wires be turned into the positions shown, the longitudinal rods are locked between them. The loops b may be separated from the transverse rods c, and the rods c may be laid in the angles of the wires a and locked with the rods c. The upper angles of the wires a, a<1> are crossed as shown, and longitudinal rods e laid on the angles so formed and the parts locked in position by other rods f threaded through the upper angles of the wires. Figs. 4 and show the invention applied to a column. The zigzag wires h are bent at the angles slightly round the longitudinal rods g and locked together and to the rods by loops i. Transverse and other additional strengthening wires and rods may be added as desired. The invention is also applicable to reinforcements for beams, walls, &c.
