To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, CHAUNCEY M. GOOD- RICH, a citizen/of the United States of America, residing at Cottam, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and use-ful mprovements in Building `Construction, of which the following is aspecilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying and consequently, the greater the amount of lost space vertically. 0n the other hand, if the4 spans between columns are reduced in length, vthe increased number of columns will increase the obstruction o f the space between floors. Thus in the construction of storage garages the presence of `columns interferes greatly with the freedom for mov-ing the cars about, while increase in the depth of the girders and trusses will diminish the' number of floors in the building.
My improvementv consists essentially in a building construction in which the space between loors for one story is left unobstructed, while the space between .floors -of an adjacent story is utilized for the forming of a truss of the depth of said story. As clearly shown in Figure 2, the space' between floors in alternate stories is free and unobstructed, there being only the columns C in the central lines and nothing intermediate to these and the side columns A. Thus, this space is particularly useful in a garage for convenience in moving about the vehicles. In the intermediate stories shown in `Figure 3 the spa-ce is more obstructed by the presence of the columns D, but is nevertheless available for storage, or in fact, forv all uses for which-the ordinary type of build- .ing construction is' adapted. rlhus without injury to the usefulness of these intermediate stories, I have provided alternate stories which arefree from obstruction'.
