Abstract

1,178,846. Granular metal soaps. CHEMISCHE WERKE MUNCHEN OTTO BARLOCHER G.m.b.H. 8 Dec., 1966 [14 Dec.. 1965; 28 April, 1966; 28 June, 1966; 1 July, 1966; 16 Sept., 1966], No. 55019/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C1, C3 and C4] Substances which are insoluble or only slightly soluble in water but dispersible in water are obtained in granular form by adding to an aqueous suspension thereof a granulating agent which is an organic compound also insoluble or slightly soluble in water, having a molecular weight above 150 and a softening point below 100‹ C. and heating until a granular precipitate is obtained. The granulating agent may be used alone when the aqueous mixture is heated to above 60‹ C. or in conjunction with a waterinsoluble organic solvent when the mixture is heated to above the melting point of the granulating agent which should be above 40‹ C. The granulating agent preferably contains a long chain fatty acid residue and may be an ester, partial ester or polyester, polyhydric alcohol, amide, amine, alkanolamide, aminoalcohol ester, epoxidized oil, nitrile, alkyl phenol, ketone, soaps optionally mixed with mineral oil, waxes, fatty acid anhydrides, ethers and polyalkylene glycol esters. Solvents may be hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones or chlorohydrocarbons boiling below 135‹ C. Materials which may be granulated are neutral or basic soaps of lead, cadmium, barium, calcium, magnesium, strontium, tin, alkali metals or zinc. The water, granulating agent and material to be granulated can be mixed in any order. In an example (5) bariumcadmium laurate is granulated with pentaerythritol mono-oleate.
