Abstract
1,178,777. Dry cooling towers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 3 Jan., 1969 [8 Jan., 1968], No. 1068/68. Heading F4S. In a cooling tower 1 of the type wherein water flowing through a ring of vertically orientated coolers 3 is cooled by indirect heat exchange with air, a plurality of fans 8 disposed in apertures 7 formed in a vertical wall 6 spaced inwardly from the coolers are provided to augment the natural draught and therefore increase the flow of air through the coolers 3. The base of the tower is supported above ground level on spaced-apart legs 2 to provide an opening around which the coolers are disposed. A canopy 5 covers the space between the coolers and the tower. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the wall 6 is stepped in cross-section to define alternate sections 11 and 12 which are slightly inclined to the vertical and horizontal respectively to assist in turning air from the coolers into the tower.
