Abstract

[Also in Division G3] An amplifying switching device has a first chamber 11 containing a movable foil 12 and being connected via a flow-control passage 20 to a second chamber 26 containing a flexible diaphragm 28 adapted to close the passage 20 upon application of fluid pressure to an inlet 32. With the passage 20 open, a fluid pressure stream, injected via an inlet 13, passes unimpeded under the foil and through an outlet 15, part of the stream passing, via passage 20, through outlet 31 until the pressure difference on both sides of the foil causes it to block the passage 20. When the passage 20 is closed by the diaphragm 28, the pressure build-up in the passage 20 causes the foil to block the outlet 15 and thus cuts off the fluid stream. A leakage path 21 (Fig. 1, not shown) may be provided further to assist unrestricted flow when the passage 20 is open. A pipe 29, connecting the passage 20 with the chamber 26, is further provided whose position is adjustable so that the switching time, depending upon the rate at which flow through the passage 20 is cut off by the diaphragm, can be varied.
