Abstract
1,178,126. Electric couplings. PROTECTED CONDUCTORS Ltd. 24 Oct., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 52203/67. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] A conductor bar 10, for a distribution system, comprises hollow end portions each having two spaced-apart sockets 11, 12, to receive elongate connecting members for connecting the bar end-to-end with a similar bar, the sockets being joined by spaced webs 17, 18 in such a manner that on forcing the webs toward one another the sockets are constricted and the connecting members located in the sockets are clamped therein. The webs 17, 18 are formed with indentations 23, 24, which mate with corresponding projections 25, 26 on a sheath 27 of, e.g., rigid P.V.C. and projections 28, 29 on the sheath are located opposite the projections 25, 26. The sheath 27 terminates short of the ends of the bar and defines a mouth opening 32 for access of a trolley. Two bars are connected by means of pins (15, 16) which are located partly in each bar, the sockets are then tightened on to the pins by means of nuts and bolts (50) which extend through both of the webs near each end of each of the bars and the joined conductor bars devoid of sheathing are masked by a plastics cover (52, Fig. 3, not shown). The sheath is formed with external projections for engagement with supporting members such as clips 40 or clamps (70, Figs. 9, 10, not shown).
