Abstract
1,177,888. Foundry core and mould compositions. NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUTTEKHNOLOGII AVTOMOILNOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. 13 Sept., 1968, No. 43586/68..Heading C3N. A binding-material for foundry core and mould mixtures is made by mixing (a) the mother solution from pentaerythritol production with 60-70% weight, based on weight of mixture, of (b) cellulose stock sulphiting or hydrolytic processing by-products, and treating the mixture with (c) an oxidation catalyst, (a) contains 11-13% saccharides, 8-12% mono-, di-, tri-, or poly-pentaerythritol, 4-10% resinous matters, 2-5% acids, and 60-75% - water, (b) may be sulphite lye, sulphite liquor, corn core hydrolysate, or sawdust hydrolysate, (c) may be ammonium or alkali metal persulphate, H 2 0 2 , or phosphoric acid. An exothermic process occurs with foaming. The binder is a dark brown liquid with s.g. 1À25- 1À30 and pH 4À0-4À8. Core mixtures prepared from the binder may contain up to 3% clay.
