Abstract

1,177,772. Automatic voltage stabilizers. C.O. OLSSON. Jan. 16, 1967 [Jan. 14, 1966], No.2309/67. Heading G3R. The output voltage of a D.C. stabilizer is maintained constant irrespective of variations in the input voltage by a plurality of paths each containing an electronic switching element, which is connected to common control means and has a potential difference between a pair of its electrodes different from that of the other element(s), the arrangement being such that only one element conducts at a time in response to a particular range of input voltage existing at that time. In the circuit shown in Fig. 1, triode valves V1, V2 respectively conduct according to whether the input voltage from a diode bridge D1---D4 is respectively within a lower or a higher range, each valve being controlled to maintain constant D.C. volts at output O, UT over a particular input voltage range by a control circuit comprising a potentiometer P1, P2, a reference source RS and an amplifier F. A Zener diode Z provides the different potential bias for the valves V1, V2. In Fig.2, three valves V1, V2, V3 are connected to tappings on the D.C. input supply L1, L2, L3, D, C and the different potential bias is supplied by adjustable resistors R1, R2, R3 connected to the valve grids. Fine control of the output voltage for small changes of input voltage is achieved by control of a transistor T through the amplifier F. The valves in both of the described embodiments may be replaced by transistors.
