Abstract

1,177,734. Fuel elements. " BELGONUCLEAIRE " SOC. BELGE POUR L'INDUSTRIE NUCLEAIRE S.A. 24 April, 1968 [5 May, 1967], No. 19341/68. Heading G6C. In a nuclear reactor fuel element, a tube is filled with grains of various sizes, differently enriched with U235 and compacted by vibration. The degree of grain enrichment is inversely as the grain size and spherically or cylindrically shaped grains are employed. The resultant enrichment is highest at the inner wall of the tube, thus improving the fuel heat transfer and raising power emission rate of the element.
