Abstract

[Also in Division C7] A solution to be analysed by chromatography is deposited in a line on an absorbent surface by means of a bar having notches 18 spaced along the bottom edge of at least one of the side faces of the bar, the notches being of triangular cross-section at right angles to the side face. In the embodiment shown, alternate notches open onto alternate side faces of the bar. A predetermined amount of solution is retained, in the notches when the bar is dipped into the solution to be analysed; the bottom face of the bar is then pressed on the absorbent surface. The bar may be made of polystyrene, and lines 20 may be formed at, e.g. 2 inch, intervals along the bar to allow it to be segmentated if required. The device may also be used in connection with electrophoresis.
