Abstract

1,143,492. Chromatography apparatus. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 5 May, 1967 [6 May, 1966], No. 20913/67. Heading B1X. A chromotographic device comprises a tray 11 having in its bottom surface an elongated well 17 for holding a supply of eluent and receiving one end of a chromatographic element 21, and a cover 27 adapted to fit on to the rim 15 of the tray, at least one of cover 27 and the bottom surface of the tray having spaced protuberances, for example ridges or pimples 29. In the embodiment shown, coated thin layer chromatography sheet 21 lies with its coated surface facing downwardly. Slot 23 may be provided in well 17 to receive the end of sheet 21. Apparatus for use at angles to the horizontal (Fig. 3 not shown) is provided with a lip (33) which projects across the top of well 17 far enough to retain the eluent when the tray is vertical. In another embodiment, well 17 is located centrally in tray 11 and two sheets may be developed, each with one end in the well.
