Abstract

1,177,667. Exhaust brakes. TATRA, NARODNI PODNIK. July 12, 1967 [July 15, 1966], No.32094/67. Heading F1B. In an I.C. engine exhaust brake wherein a solenoid valve 7 admits compressed air into a cylinder 5 which controls the exhaust brake flap 3, the solenoid valve coil 9 is connected in parallel to a coil 11 of an electromagnetic switch, one contact 14 of which is connected in series to one common outlet of both coils and the other contact 27 is connected through a D.C. source to earth and the outlet 26 of both coils is connected to a control switch 17 which by means of a lever 19 actuated by the fuel injection pump governor 21 inter-connects the outlet 26 to earth. The exhaust brake is actuated by depressing lever 13 or an optional press button switch 18 but is inoperative until accelerator pedal 24 is released or the engine speed is reduced to a predetermined value. The exhaust brake is actuated when arm 19 contacts switch 17 to close the electrical circuit and the coil 11 holds the switch 12 closed until the engine speed reduction causes governor 21 to move lever 19.
