Abstract

1,177,242. Rolling; uncoiling. UNITED ENG. & FOUNDRY CO. 22 Feb., 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 8509/67. Headings B3E and B3M. Uncoiling apparatus, for use in combination with a rolling mill 11, permits both tightly and loosely formed coils to be supported at a station B during rolling. The coils are initially shifted by a beam 13 from a conveyer 10 to a carriage 15, the carriage being lowered by a ram 21 and then moved towards the mill by a further ram 32. For a loosely wound coil the carriage is stopped at station A and the free end of the coil is fed between clamping shelves 33. The coil is then pushed by arms 23 across an inclined table 37 and into a coil box at station B. Pinch rolls 34 and 36 can then feed the strip to the mill, after retraction of the shelves 33. For a tightly wound coil, the table 37 and the supporting rollers 5 1 , 5 2 are moved to the dotted portions 37a and 53a respectively, thereby allowing the coil to be moved by the carriage 15 directly to station B. Supporting mandrels 58, 59 are passed through the coil centre, and the pinch rolls 34 and 36 feed the strip as before.
