Abstract

1,177,187. Digital transmission systems; automatic exchange equipment. SIEMENS A.G. 26 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967]; No. 19814/68. Headings H4K and H4P. In a digital transmission system the time of occurrence of a received pulse is recorded and when a subsequently received pulse is received the time difference between the pulses is determined. In one embodiment the time of occurrence of the Start bit of a telegraph signal is recorded in a store. The stored time is subtracted from the time of occurrence of each subsequent change in level in the signal, and from the result is subtracted a time equal to a multiple of the theoretical signal element duration. The resultant signal represents the amount that the change in level differs from its theoretical position, and if this amount is less than half an element in duration, a counter records the number of elements received and a store stores the received elements. In a second embodiment the time of occurrence of a received dialling pulse is stored in a first store, and the time of the next pulse in a second store. If the time difference is within the correct limits the second store is read out to the first, for subtraction from the time of the next pulse, and a counter is incremented.
