Abstract

1,176,979. Phase shifters. THOMSON-CSF. 1 Dec., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 54797/67. Heading H1W Phase-shift is varied in a U.H.F. phase-shifter by progressively substituting a transversely movable, solid dielectric body 4 for the airspace between the conductors 1, 3 of a strip line. The dielectric body 4 is rigidly joined to a coextensive conductive plate 3 which contacts ground conductor 1 and thus forms a movable ground plane. In order to preserve the characteristic impedance of the line, the spacings e 1 , e 2 and the dielectric constant k of the body 4 are chosen such that e 2 /e 1 =#k. The elements 3, 4 extend the whole length of the line which is provided at either end with coaxial sockets.
