Abstract

1,176,952. Waveguide dissipative loads. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 17 June, 1968 [10 July, 1967], No. 31686/67. Heading H1W. A liquid power-absorbing load comprises a low-loss dielectric body for guiding the wave into the dissipative liquid. As shown, a tapered body 5 of, e.g. P.T.F.E. extends into a tank 4 containing, e.g. water. The body forms an extension of a waveguide Chebycheff transformer 1 which is stepped in its E dimension. A perforated rectangular waveguide 6 surrounds the body 5 and allows access of water to its surface. The tank 4 may be open or it may be sealed and provided with means for collecting and condensing evolved steam.
