Abstract
969,769. Filters. BRITISH WEDGE WIRE CO. Ltd., and S. F. W. CRUNDALL. Oct. 31, 1961 [March 28, 1961], No. 11219/61. Heading B1D. Water is introduced into a tank 20, Fig. 2, through a valve 21 until it reaches the level of, or slightly above, a "wedge-wire" floor 12, whereupon the valve is closed and sewage sludge is allowed to run on to the floor. A valve 22 is then opened to permit drainage of all liquid. In Fig. 1 the base 11 is inclined as before, but only one valve, 17, is provided for introduction of water and removal of liquid. A displaceable bulkhead 18 may be provided, and may be formed of wedge wire to permit drainage of supernatant liquid. The fixed walls of the tank 10 may also be of wedge wire. The floor 12 may have upstanding ridges of triangular section, the walls of the ridges consisting of wedge wire. In Fig. 2 a supernatant remover in the form of a wedge wire screen 23 may be provided. The wedge wire floor may be displaceable in its own horizontal plane, like a conveyer, or it may be tippable. Specification 969,768 is referred to.
