Abstract

The inner faces of the guide walls of a slide member for a sliding clasp fastener diverge symmetrically with respect to the centre line of the slide member until they are perpendicular to this line, the radii of curvature of these faces being such that the two sets of fastener teeth may be guided smoothly into the slide member even when the sets approach the member in directions separated by an angle of up to 180‹. A conventional slider 30, including guide walls 34, is adapted to have an additional member releasably fastened to it, the additional member providing extensions 40b to guide walls 34. The additional member comprises two plates 36 and 37, which can be attached to the slider 30 by a pin 38 extending through a bore 35. The guide wall extensions 40b are formed with stepped portions 40a, which engage over the outer edges of guide walls 34. In a modification Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the additional member is dispensed with, the slider itself being formed with guide walls similar in shape and extent to the walls 34-40b. A conventional locking mechanism is provided. A second modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), comprises a slide member, which is similar to the additional member only of Figs. 3 and 4 and which is adapted for bringing the two sets of fastener teeth into spaced, parallel alignment, thus facilitating fastening by a separate conventional slider, which may be linked to the slide member. The latter may be detachable from the fastener, and comprise two halves releasably secured together by a stud and socket connection. At least part of the inner face of each guide wall may be formed by part of the circumferential region of a roller, which may rotate as' the slide member is moved along the fastener.
