Abstract

A voltage test apparatus for indicating the change in a power supply voltage which will occur when a given load is applied to the supply incorporates a pair of test terminals 1, 2 to which the supply is connected, a test load 8 switchable across the terminals and a bridge circuit to whose terminals 4, 3 the input voltage, suitably rectified at 5, is connected, the bridge being in parallel across the input terminals with the test load when connected. One branch of the bridge includes a Zener diode 12 to develop a standard voltage at a point 19 while the other branch includes a potentiometer with a tapping point 18. A meter 16 and diode 17 are connected between the points 18, 19. The tapping 18 is adjusted under no load conditions so that the meter reads zero. Various resistors 8a-8c may then be switched in to simulate different load conditions. The voltage across 4-3 falls, and the reading of meter 16, previously calibrated, indicates the effect of the load on the supply. The diode 17 serves to damp minute mains fluctuations and protect the meter from reverse and excess currents.
