Abstract

1,176,250. Pressure-resisting doors. TULLY ENG. CO. Ltd. 11 Nov., 1968 [17 Oct., 1967], No. 47173/67. Heading F2P. A pressure-resisting door for a pressure vessel or like container consists of a plate 15 which is universally mounted by being connected via a pair of upstanding brackets (13, 14, Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), to a shaft 12 which is carried on a pair of arms 8 independently pivoted on a shaft 10 secured to brackets welded to the door opening 2, the door being moved towards and away from the door opening by a pair of arms 6 which are secured to a rotatable shaft 1 and support between them a shaft 5 which slides in slots 8a in the arms 8 to cause rotation of the latter about the shaft 10 when the shaft 1 is rotated. Owing to the provision of a pair of wedges 11 which are secured to the arms 8 and supported in grooves in the shaft 12, the door is firmly secured in closed position when the arms 6 are perpendicular to the door plate 15, so that pressure in the container cannot open the door. A recessed sealing strip 16 is provided on the underside of the door plate 15.
