Abstract
1,175,958. Inductors. E. C. RECHEL. 29 Feb., 1968, No. 9816/68. Heading HIT. An inductor comprises a coil former 11, a winding 12 on said former 11, one edge of a wrapping flexible insulating sheet 15 being inserted between the winding 12 and its last turn 13 which overlays the wrapper 15 and is secured to a contact 16 mounted on and spaced from the edge of the wrapper 15, one end of a lead wire 17 being connected to the contact and its free end being temporarily secured by a hold down means to the wrapper. A plurality of inductors may be formed at one time by incorporating a plurality of separate windings 10a, 10b &c. on a single former, using a single wrapper. Contacts may be individually secured by adhesion or clinching or stapling, or may be in the form of a conductive strip on the underside of the wrapper, insulated from the windings by tape connections being made through holes in the wrapper above the strip. The wrapping completely encircles the windings and is secured thereto by adhesion, the former and strip to be cut transversely to form individual inductors. The leads are normally made of thicker conductor than the windings. The wrapper may form an insulation layer between the primary and secondary windings of a transformer, the contact acting as a common terminal of the two windings, and may be made of kraft paper. The invention has particular application in automobile ignition coils.
