Abstract

1,175,903. Cellular shoe members. BOSTIK Ltd. 3 Feb., 1967 [4 Feb., 1966], No. 5214/67. Headings C3C, C3P and C3R. [Also in Division A3] A resilient shoe bottom member, e.g. heels, outsoles and heel lifts having a cellular structure is formed from a thermoplastic mouldable composition comprising a resinous vinyl chloride polymer and not less than 60% by weight of the polymer of substantially linear polyester plasticizer material having a molecular weight not less 4000. Up to 120% by weight of linear polyester plasticizer may be used as well as not more than 25% by weight of the polyester of monomeric plasticizer material and not more than 1% by weight of the polymer of a dispersed blowing agent. The composition is injected into a mould cavity adapted to define the shape of the shoe bottom member and subjected to an injection moulding process at 310-390‹ F. The polymer may be vinyl chloride homopolymers, its copolymers with vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride or blends with natural or synthetic rubbers including butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers and polymethyl methacrylate. The linear polyester plasticizer may be a reaction product of a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. a glycol such as ethylene, butylene or dipropylene glycols and a dibasic acid such as phthalic acids, sebacic acid and thiodipropionic acid. Specified monomeric platicizers are dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl adipate and butyl benzylphthalate, and blowing agents include azobisdicarbonamide, sodium bicarbonate and urea oxalate. Stabilizers and fillers, e.g. dibutyl tin dilaurate and carbon black, may be incorporated in the composition.
