Abstract

1,175,346. Strand traversing device. JOHNSMANVILLE CORP. 26 June, 1968, No. 30368/ 68. Heading D1J. A traverse means 10 for a strand 22 is an elongate cylinder 40 rotatable about an axis 42 that is oblique to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder 40, the resulting motion of the cylinder 40 causing the strand 22 to slide back and forth across the cylinder. In the embodiment shown the package 18 is rotated by a motor 30 that is reciprocated as at 34 on a guide 32. The strand 22 can be made from glass filaments 16 gathered together by a converger 24. Treating material, such as binders, lubrication, sizes or the like may be applied to the filaments 16 as they converge.
