Abstract

In a one pipe central heating system in which each of a number of radiators has an upper inlet connection and a lower outlet connection to a hot water riser, means are provided to produce a pressure drop in the riser at each outlet connection. As illustrated, a ring 9 is located in the riser 1 upstream of an outlet connection 5 of a radiator 2 so that the resultant Venturi effect aids the circulation of water through the radiator. An inlet control valve 4 is provided. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a cylindrical tube (10) of the same internal cross-section as the smallest flow crosssection of the ring leads from the ring to a point just downstream of the radiator outlet connection so as to reduce turbulence. In a modification of the latter embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the riser cross-section is narrowed immediately downstream of the tube (10) by means of an insert (11) to further reduce turbulence. A plurality of radiators may be connected in parallel with one inlet and one outlet connection, Fig. 4 (not shown).
