Abstract
1,175,097. Aircraft undercarriages. ELECTRO-HYDRAULICS Ltd. 18 June, 1968 [21 June, 1967], No. 28669/67. Heading B7G. [Also in Division E2] An aircraft retractable undercarriage comprises a latch 12, pivotally connected to the aircraft at 13, which engages a locking pin 4 located on a lug 5 on a leg member 1. A cam follower 15 on the latch 12 has a clearance from the upper surface 20 of a cam 3 so that deflections of the undercarriage due to ground manoeuvres will not cause the latch to be unlocked. The undercarriage is retracted by extending the jack 7; when this is done piston rod 6 cannot move since pin 4 is locked by the latch 12. Accordingly the cylinder 8 moves to the right as permitted by a pin and slot lost motion connection 10,11, and link 16 also moves to the right releasing latch 12 from the pin 4 whereupon the piston rod 6 pivots the member 1 about pivot 2. The profile 22 of the cam 3 passes under the cam follower 15, eliminating the lost motion during the retraction operation. The undercarriage is lowered by closing the jack, the locking occurring at the end of lowering when the cam follower 15 leaves the profile 22. In another embodiment locking is aided by a compression spring 17 which urges the latch 12 into the locked position. The device may be adapted for use as an up lock.
