Abstract
1,174,906. Extruding food products. RALSTON PURINA CO. 15 Dec., 1966 [15 Dec., 1965], No. 56327/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A2] An extruder apparatus for the conversion of protein-containing vegetable material into a meat-like fibrous product comprises an elongated extruder barrel forming an elongated chamber having a rotating screw (5) therein for working, advancing and pressurizing said material, an inlet at out end of the chamber, restricted orifice outlet means comprising a first restrictor port means (11) communicating with one end of a hollow elongated tubular pressure chamber (20) having a diameter and a length less than the extruder barrel chamber, there being restricted outlet orifice means (19) at the other end of the pressure chamber, and cooling and heating means (13<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>1</SP>) around at least portions of the barrel.
