1,174,830. Dithioloquinoline derivatives and processes for their preparation. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 15 May, 1968 [7 June, 1967], No. 26178/67. Addition to 1,040,552. Heading C2C. Dithioloquinoline imine derivatives of the formula wherein R represents hydrogen, an aromatic group, an aliphatic group or an acyl group, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> represent the same or different aliphatic groups, R<SP>4</SP> is an aliphatic or aromatic group, and one or more substituents may be present in the benzene ring of the dihydroquinoline nucleus, may be obtained by reacting a primary amine of the formula R<SP>4</SP>-NH 2 with a dithioloquinoline derivative of the formula wherein R 3 represents an aliphatic group and X represents an anion of valency n, which compounds may themselves be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula R n <SP>3</SP>X with a dithioloquinoline-thione derivative of the formula when the radical R is an acyl group it may be derived from a carboxylic or sulphonic acid; the anion X is generally derived from an acid having a dissociation or first dissociation constant in aqueous solution at 25‹ C. greater than 10<SP>-1</SP>, examples of such anions being halide, sulphate, hydrogen sulphate, alkosulphate and nitrate. The radicals R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP> may be substituted, for example by halogen, alkoxy, phenoxy, hydroxyl, amino, nitro or carboxylic groups, and quinoline derivatives which are substituted in the benzene ring include compounds where the substituent is, for example, an aliphatic group as defined for R, an aliphatic-oxy group, an alkenyl-oxy group, an aralkoxy group, an aromatic group which may be substituted, a halogen, a nitro group, an amino group which may be substituted, or a methylene group to which a second quinoline derivative of Formula II is linked. The products are stated to be useful as rubber additives and microbiocidal agents.
