Abstract

1,174,805. Projectile fuzes. A. LOSFELD. 6 March, 1967 [7 March, 1966], No. 10494/67. Heading F3A. Fuze, particularly for grenades, comprising a detonator 15, a percussion mechanism comprising a first firing pin 24 movable relative to a first primer 26 for igniting the detonator, a time mechanism comprising a second firing pin 8 movable relative to a second primer 14 for igniting the detonator by means of a combustive delay 10, a single safety pin 12 locking both mechanisms, held in place by a wound tape 18 and releasing both mechanisms on its ejection from the fuze when the tape unwinds during projection of the device, and a selector consisting of a disc 27 mounted for rotation by means of a radial lug and having an aperture therein so that the periphery of the aperture prevents relative movement of both mechanisms in a first position, prevents relative movement of one mechanism whilst permitting relative movement of the one or other mechanism, in second and third positions, and allows relative movement of both mechanisms in a fourth position. A lead weight 19 facilitates unwinding of the tape. The primer 26 is mounted in a slidable piston 7, and on impact is driven against the firing pin by a ball 6. The firing pin may be fixed or movable towards the primer on impact. The cap 4 surrounding the ball may be formed with an aperture. A removable cap 5 is secured to the fuze by a bayonet joint. The safety pin 12 constitutes a fire protection barrier if the primers are ignited accidentally.
