[Also in Divisions C3 and C7] A coating composition comprises an aqueous solution or emulsion of a butadiene homopolymer or copolymer containing more than 50 weight percent of butadiene units which has carboxylic or carboxylate end groups, a number average molecular weight of 200 to 10,000 and more than 80% 1,2-bonding, the carboxylate being an alkali metal, ammonium, or amine carboxylate or a partial alkyl ester. Suitable comonomers are styrene and isoprene. The compositions may have pigments such as titanium dioxide, driers and hydrophilic solvents such as butoxyethanol added thereto. In the examples zinc phosphate treated iron sheets are electro-coated and glass panels are coated. The coatings cross-link on heating.
