Abstract

1,174,586. Locks. BANHAM'S PATENT LOCKS Ltd. 1 March, 1967 [7 March, 1966], No. 9777/66. Heading E2A. A lock for a pair of mutually hinged parts, e.g. the fixed and movable frames for casement window, comprises bolt and peg members for attachment to the respective parts, an abutment element on said peg member 19 providing an engagement for the bolt member 14, the bolt member being carried by a body having a keyoperated mechanism 4 for displacement of the bolt member, said mechanism comprising an eccentric actuating element 16 that pivots with operation of the mechanism and that projects into a slot 18 in the bolt member extending transversely to the direction of displacement of the bolt member, whereby pivoting of the actuating element displaces the bolt member into and out of engagement with the peg member. As shown the body consists of a die-cast shell 2 and a backplate 10, the backplate having an aperture 26 which enables the peg member to pass into a bore 28 of the shell to be engaged by the bolt member. The bolt member has a slot in one side portion which deforms a U-shaped engagement region 22 for the peg member which has a necked portion 30 engaged by the region 22 of the bolt member. In a modification the bolt member has two regions 22 at opposite ends and the body has two apertures 26 and bars 28 so that the lock is suitable for left and right hand windows.
