Abstract

1,173,664. U.H.F. wide band valve amplifiers. THOMSON-CSF. 11 Jan., 1967 [14 Jan., 1966], No. 1602/67. Heading H3W. In a U.H.F. amplifier, including a thermionic tube, an H.T. decoupling capacitor 7 is connected between the tube anode 3 and a tunable anode primary resonant circuit structure 6, 20 so as to couple the primary circuit to a tunable anode secondary resonant circuit structure 9, 10 and the primary and secondary anode circuit structures are of tubular form and are arranged coaxially with the axis of the thermionic tube. Tuning the primary circuit to the frequency of the input signal to be amplified is effected by a movable short circuit 8. The primary and secondary circuits are formed as coaxial circuits and to avoid external radiation the inside of the conductor 10 may be provided with an anode screen. The secondary circuit is tuned by movable short circuits 13 and 14 and the output is taken from 12. The inner conductor 10 is connected to the body 2 of the anode via a capacitor 11. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown), the outer conductors 6 and 9 of the primary and secondary circuits are formed as a single conductor. Also rectangular cavities may be used and tubes other than the triode shown, e.g. tetrodes, may be used.
